Gravitational collapse of massless scalar field and radiation fluid

چکیده
Several classes of exact solutions to the Einstein field equations coupled with either a massless scalar field or a radiation fluid are given, and their main properties are studied. It is found that some represent the formation of black holes due to the gravitational collapse of the matter fields. When the spacetimes have continuous self-similarity (CSS), the masses of black holes take a scaling formMBH ∝ (P−P ∗)γ , where γ = 0.5 for massless scalar field and γ = 1 for radiation fluid. The reasons for the difference between the values of γ obtained here and those obtained previously are discussed. When the spacetimes have neither CSS nor DSS (Discrete self-similarity), the masses of black holes either take a scaling form or turn on with finite non-zero values. Gravitational Collapse of a Massless Scalar Field and a Perfect Fluid with Self-Similarity of the First Kind in (2+1) Dimensions
Self-similar solutions of a collapsing perfect fluid and a massless scalar field with kinematic selfsimilarity of the first kind in 2+1 dimensions are obtained. Their local and global properties of the solutions are studied. It is found that some of them represent gravitational collapse, in which black holes are always formed, and some may be interpreted as representing cosmological models.
متن کاملPerturbations and Critical Behavior in the Self-Similar Gravitational Collapse of a Massless Scalar Field
This paper studies the perturbations of the continuously self-similar critical solution of the gravitational collapse of a massless scalar field (Roberts solution). The perturbation equations are derived and solved exactly. The perturbation spectrum is found to be not discrete, but occupying continuous region of the complex plane. The renormalization group calculation gives the value of the mas...
متن کاملCritical Behavior of Black Hole Formation in a Scalar Wave Collapse
Gravitational collapse is one of interesting phenomena in general relativity. In recent years, a large number of studies have been made on the dynamical behavior of a massless scalar field, in the context of spherically symmetric gravitational collapse. It has been shown that for a weak-field implosion scalar waves bounce and disperse to infinity, while a strong-field implosion leads to black h...
متن کاملCritical collapse of a massive vector field
Critical gravitational collapse was first found by Choptuik[1] in simulations of a spherically symmetric massless scalar field. A natural question to pose is then how critical collapse behaves when the scalar field has a mass, since this will introduce a characteristic length that destroys the scale invariance of the field equations. This question was studied by Brady et. al.[2] The results of ...
متن کاملGravitational Collapse of a Radiating Shell
We study the collapse of a self-gravitating and radiating shell. Matter constituting the shell is quantized and the construction is viewed as a semiclassical model of possible black hole formation. It is shown that the shell internal degrees of freedom are excited by the quantum non-adiabaticity of the collapse and, consequently, on coupling them to a massless scalar field, the collapsing matte...
